In the end, ESPN is building the NFC and Fox is building the AFC

This will be an NFL model where the old conference names can still be used, but they exist within a bigger construct. And the playoffs can still be adjusted to include both guaranteed and non-guaranteed spots.

The regular season could actually be more interesting with a push towards more big event or regional rivalry type games. Then the playoffs become a whole new mini season of coverage and new matchups.

And the fact that the Big Ten and SEC are targeting the big name schools first, tells me that it is part of a bigger strategy. The easiest way to make the ACC, Big12, and PAC go away is to poach the big brand teams. The ones left behind all know that they need the bigger names and so they will willingly, and quickly, follow. All you need is 6 teams to make it happen.

ACC: Clemson and FSU
Big 12: Texas and Oklahoma
PAC: USC and UCLA

Get those six to move to SEC or Big Ten and there is nothing left to prop up the remaining conferences. NFL model could be built quickly if they get those six to move.
